Hank Willis Thomas: All Things Being Equal
Hank Willis Thomas is one of the most important artists of our time. He is a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship and the AIMIA | AGO Photography Prize. He has a permanent installation at The National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama. And he co-founded For Freedoms, which recently implemented civic activations across all 50 states.
A conceptual artist, Hank Willis Thomas works in various mediums including photography, film and video, installation and sculpture to explore issues of race, gender, and cultural identity.
All Things Being Equal… is the first time in 20 years that all of Thomas’s work can been seen together. We were challenged to bring work that is anything but standard into book format. Close collaboration with the artist and the team at Aperture Foundation ensured a faithful process and a radically appropriate outcome.
A comprehensive survey of the work opened at the Portland Museum of Art in 2019.
